Museums Australia Queensland
Museums Australia (Qld) is the Queensland branch of Museums Australia, the national association representing the museum and gallery sector.
Museums Australia (Qld) [MAQ] - is the peak industry association for museums in Queensland. MAQ actively serves, develops and promotes the interests of Queensland's museums, galleries, keeping places, historical societies, historic houses and sites at local, state and national levels.
MAQ provides information, advice and support to members of the museum and gallery, and cultural heritage sectors in both regional and metropolitan Queensland. MAQ is also actively involved in the lobbying and promotion of the interests of all sectors of the industry to all levels of government. MAQ operates under separate by-laws and is directed by an elected Executive Committee who represent the diverse sectors of the industry in Queensland to the Museums Australia National Council, to government and to the community generally.
Museums Australia
Museums Australia provides a range of professional services to members and promotes the role of museums in society, at local, regional, state and national level. Established in 1993, Museums Australia brought together various bodies representing natural and applied science, social history, art galleries, keeping places and archives. The association is a network of state and territory branches, Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and the national body. Museums Australia works with members (particularly those sitting on the National Council, or on committees, within the branches, and others contributing through SIGs) to formulate policy initiatives and promote these to the museums of Australia. The two primary functions of Museums Australia are advocacy to government (informed by research and consultation) and professional practice. Click HERE to go the Museums Australia (national) website.
